Semaine Serge Daney

Semaine Serge Daney

In collaboration with Cimatheque – the alternative film center, the French institute introduces:- A program of screenings and discussions on the films that captured the imagination of French film critic Serge Daney (1944 – 1992), and inspired him to write about them.

In addition to the films that inspired his essays tackling the relationship between image and time—or the so-called reality and the context that witnessed the production of those films—this program aims to consider the medium that produces it (analogue- digital), and the medium that transmits it (cinema-internet-other media channels): in the midst of this current flow of images with which we constantly live. From film footage, through ¨moving images¨ in general, ending with war, violence, and propaganda to the rich and diverse images of daily life, that encourages us to rethink, and to question our quest of trying to understand Daney's ideas about the politics, aesthetics and ethics of making and producing those images in a critical way that suits our present moment.
