Tribute to Mohamed Bakr

Tribute to Mohamed Bakr

One of the most important movie set photographers in Egyptian film history, Mohamed Bakr got his start in the profession in the 1950s, documenting countless behind the scenes moments during the industry's much-lauded "Golden Age." His studio in Giza, which remains open to this day, houses an important photographic archive of mainstream, commercial Egyptian cinema.

--- An exhibit showcasing some of Bakr’s iconic work will open at 6PM and remain open to the public for two weeks.

Movie set photography is a profession that has virtually disappeared with the onset of digital media. The archives of former set photographers document the historical progress of cinema industries, and represent a precious heritage that is much appreciated all over the world. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Egypt; one of the film industry’s pioneers. This documentary takes a special look at Mohamed Bakr, whose studio in Giza houses one of the most treasured archives of Egypt’s cinema industry.
The film will be screened in the presence of filmmaker Sherif Fathy Salem, and Mohamed Bakr.
